During the late summer of 1987 a small meeting was held at Warwick University, to follow up some of the ideas discussed at the 1984/5 Warwick Symposium on Stochastic Differential Equations and Applications. Entitled Summer Stochastics 1987 it covered a variety of topics: Levy process theory, coupling methods, probabilistic methods in quantum physics, stochastic mechanics and Feynman path integrals for Dirac and Schrodinger equations, but there was a particular emphasis on infinite dimensional problems involving linear and non-linear analysis in Wiener space together with their applications to quantum field theory and hydro-dynamcs. The articles in this volume reflect this spread. They are designed to give an introduction to the particular area involved as well as giving the latest results of the authors. Written by probabilists and mathematical physicists they provide the reader with an account of some of the main new approaches and techniques being used, and demonstrate the exciting interaction between geometric ideas probability and analysis.
