This book presents a deep review of various power theories and shows how the instantaneous active and reactive power theory provides an important basic knowledge for understanding and designing active filters for power conditioning. The only book of its kind, it also demonstrates how the instantaneous active and reactive power theory can be used for combined shunt–series filters and in Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS).

Expert coverage of instantaneous active and reactive power theory and its related applications to Power Conditioning
This book, Instantaneous Power Theory and Applications to Power Conditioning, presents a deep review of various power theories, and shows how the instantaneous active and reactive power theory provides an important basic knowledge for understanding and designing active filters for power conditioning. These filters are very important to mitigate harmonic pollution due to the widely used nonlinear loads both in home appliances and in industry. The only book of its kind, Instantaneous Power Theory and Applications to Power Conditioning also demonstrates how the instantaneous active and reactive power theory can be used for combined shunt–series filters and in Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS).
Written by leading experts in this groundbreaking technology, Instantaneous Power Theory and Applications to Power Conditioning features coverage of:
Hirofumi Akagi is Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, where he teaches power electronics. He was elected as a Fellow of the IEEE in 1996, and as a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Industry Applications and Power Electronics Societies for 1998 1999. He was the recipient of both the IEEE William E. Newell Power Electronics Award in 2001 and the IEEE Industry Applications Society Outstanding Achievement Award in 2004.
Edson Hirokazu Watanabe is Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where he teaches power electronics. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and has published papers in IEEE Transactions and IEE Proceedings. In 2005, he was admitted to the National Order of Scientific Merit (Brazil).
Mauricio Aredes is Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where he teaches power electronics. He has published more than twenty peer–reviewed journal papers and eighty in conference proceedings.
