Book Description Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Jacket and illustrations by Erik Blegvad (illustrator). Reprint. First published in two vols in 1945 and 1947, and as an illustrated reset single vol in 1957, this is a fourth impression of the reset book, published in 1968. some edge wear and rubbing to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners slightly rubbed and bruised, price clipped and price replaced with publisher's sticker (16/-), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age, in bright unfaded jacket. 192pp, illustrated. These are the exploits of the three Wilson children, Miss Price, the apprentice witch, and the flying bed. A tale of a witch in training and trouble of the most unforgettable kind, made into a film in 1971, starring David Tomlinson, John Ericson and Angela Lansbury. Mary Kathleen Norton (1903-92), spent much of her childhood in a late Georgian house which later became the model for Firbank Hall in THE BORROWERS. For a year she acted at the Old Vic before getting married and going to live in Portugal. During the Second World War she was evacuated to New York and struggled to support herself and her four children while her husband was in the Navy. It was then that she began to write, and in 1945 her first children's book, THE MAGIC BEDKNOB, later combined with BONFIRES AND BROOMSTICKS in a single volume, BEDKNOB AND BROOMSTICK, was published. This was followed in 1952 by THE BORROWERS series, which was awarded the Carnegie Medal. Quite scarce, even in this later impression. Seller Inventory # 010767
