About the Author:
Stendhal, or Marie - Henri Beyle (1783 - 1842), French novelist and literary critic, was born in Grenoble, France. He is best - known for his novels Le rouge et le noir (1830), La chartreuse de Parme (1839), and Lucien Leuwen (1855). Some of his other works include Souvenirs d'gotisme (1892), La vie d'Henri Brulard (1890), Racine et Shakespeare (1823), De l'amour (1822), and Armance (1827). Stendhal influenced many German and French writers and intellectuals with his ideas literary criticism.
