In a twenty-first-century America ravaged by disease and stifled by martial law, one man, Michael Barris, a wealthy interactive-television mogul with a controversial past, challenges the system and becomes the sole hope of a desperate world.

The best and most important book I've written to date.
'The Immortals' is unlike anything I've done before ... and not just because of it's subject. For many years I've watched the AIDS epidemic become a matter of political debate which seemed to center on everything except the people who were suffering and dying. However, 'Immortals' has grown to mean far more to me than the original premise implied. More than any other book I have written, these characters speak to me. More than any other book I have written, their words and their quest for the meaning of their existance reaches into my very soul. I have tried to tell their story with a brisk pacing and powerful, driving narrative. I believe I succeeded far beyond my own abilities. 'The Immortals' is not just a story of quarantine/death camps where victims of an AIDS-like plague have been sent to die -- but focuses on the prisoners struggles to survive their own inevitable deaths, and thus find real meaning in their existence. Though the text is very accessible, I wouldn't call it an easy read: the world here is grim in the beginning. However, I believe that the ending of the book speaks to the triumph of the human spirit, and ultimately to us all. Take a moment, if you will, and view the sample chapter I've posted on my web site. (http://www.TRHickman.com) If you are intrigued with what you see -- I hope you'll pick up your copy of the book right here. Let me know what you think of it.
