About the Author

Anne Sexton was born Anne Gray Harvey in Massachusetts in 1928. After the birth of her second daughter, Anne suffered a suicidal breakdown. Self-hatred led to repeated hospitalisations and in 1974, aged forty-five, she committed suicide.
