Thomas Kydd has dragged himself up in the navy from press-ganged seaman to captain of his own ship. Now he faces disgrace. After losing favour with his superiors, and suffering terrible personal tragedy, Kydd and his ship are sent to guard the Channel Islands from Napoleon's forces. When he is brutally betrayed off the Normandy Coast and removed from command, only his old friend Renzi is willing to stick by him. Kydd is determined to clear his name, but soon finds himself fighting yet another battle he seems to have no chance of winning. Can he defeat his enemies on both sides, and win back the glory taken from him?

Julian Stockwin is the superstar of naval fiction set during the Age of Sail . . . another great seafaring adventure (Warships on TREACHERY)
Another thundering good read for those who love seagoing stories in the Hornblower mould (Peterborough Evening Telegraph)
Another ripping yarn (Good Book Guide on TREACHERY)
Stockwin is a born storyteller and, with his series of intriguing sub-plots, a man with a vivid imagination. Importantly, his research is accurate and first class. TREACHERY is highly recommended. (Flagship)
An absorbing tale (Firetrench)
I was soon turning the pages almost indecently fast...Roll on, the promised adventures of Kydd and Renzi (Independent on KYDD)
Stockwin paints a vivid picture of life aboard the mighty ship-of-the-line...the harsh naval discipline, the rancid food, and the skill of the common sailor are all skilfully evoked. (Daily Express on KYDD)
THE PRIVATEER'S REVENGE features the splendid new cover treatment for the Kydd series, and to my great pleasure, a wonderful original painting by Geoff Hunt RSMA. During the location research for this book in the Channel Islands I developed a fresh admiration for Admiral Sir James Saumarez, a much-undervalued naval hero, whose integrity and sensitivity ensured he would stand in the shadow of other, more colourful characters. The inhabitants of the Norman Isles are fiercely independent and rightly revere their thousand-year history. There have been few of my research locations that have proved so little changed and so atmospheric. I do hope you enjoy this story; in the next book Kydd will be sailing into shoal waters of quite another kind...
