Ros Asquith is famous for her teenage fiction. She wrote and illustrated the best-selling Teenage Warrior series, which have been translated into more than ten lanugages, and the Fab Four series. Selina Young was a very popular and well-known illustrator. She died in 2006.From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 2-Mrs. Pig goes out for the evening, leaving her husband in charge. The piglets wail and whine, pleading with Mum not to leave, but the second she is out of sight they run downstairs for a pillow fight. "Oh, all right," sighed Mr Pig, "But just one short one. Then it's bedtime." The youngsters come up with other ploys to stay up and, pretty soon, Mr Pig is fast asleep while the kids watch TV and draw. They wake him up just as their mother is coming home and they jump into bed without washing or brushing their teeth, wearing all their clothes. Mum sees the chaos, but praises her husband anyway. While the story relies on archaic family stereotypes to make its humorous points, children and parents alike will recognize and laugh at the ruses of the clever piglets over their domestically incompetent father. The illustrations, rendered in watercolor, pen, and colored pencil, are bright, cheerful, and amusing. Read this book along with Mercer Mayer's Just Go to Bed (Golden, 1985) and Peggy Rathmann's 10 Minutes Till Bedtime (Putnam, 1998) for irresistible bedtime fun.
