Review:
Engaging, pacy ... adventure, a dash of romance, plenty of cliff hangers in wobbly places" -- Time Out
From the Author:
This was my first published novel, and as such has a special place in my affections. I re-read it recently, and got a real kick out of seeing all the mistakes I made! It was also nice to remind myself of the enthusiasm I felt for the story and the characters, something that hasn't diminished with the passage of time. As a reader, I prefer the second book (Beyond Freedom) but it still intrigues me to hear people tell me how much they liked the first one and (more importantly) why. There's a lot of me in the first one, and talking to its readers is kind of like being psychoanalysed. It's very gratifying to know that a lot of what I was trying to say actually came across as I intended it, and that there are people out there who think the same way I do. It's also a lot of fun to hear from people who hated it (so long as they REALLY hated it) because they're so very enthusiastic about telling you.
