This work is designed as a self-teaching text for those students about to begin an engineering degree course whose knowledge of mechanics gained from a GCE A-level or similar qualifying course is insecure. It will also be useful as a revision text. It covers three topics - statics, kinematics and kinetics. Each is divided into a number of "frames" or short sub-sections, which contain copious examples and illustrations. Most frames require a response from the reader, in the shape of exercises, or answers to questions; the answers and solutions appear in the following frames so that readers can verify their attempts or correct them as appropriate.
