Value Stream Management

9780273642022: Value Stream Management

Synopsis

P>"A coherent approach that can add real consumer and shareholder value, whilst challenging the integrated supply chain's responsiveness."

Mike Mortimer, Development Manager, Britvic Soft Drinks Ltd

"The Supply Chain Development Programme was a unique experiment from the start...As we began to explore these lean ideas, it became clear they opened up new possibilities for improving supply chain performance. Indeed some of the work carried out within SCDP has had a significant impact within Tesco and its supply chain, which we are continuing to this day."

Graham Booth, Supply Chain Development & Planning director, Tesco Stores Ltd

How do you maximize the value of products and services throughout the value stream?

Based on one of the largest ever studies into the supply chain, Value Stream Management analyzes a variety of companies covering a range of sectors including retail, services and manufacturing. It constructs a set of generic concepts, rules and techniques that will show you how to focus, manage and sustain excellence throughout the supply chain.

Filled with practical advice and tools for implementation, the authors present the best practice from business, leveraging understanding and a practical springboard for the development of your own lean value stream management system.

The need for rapid and sustainable development within supply chains is one of the key imperatives of today's business environment.

Realizing the value stream is undoubtedly a primary source of competitive advantage that is receiving ever more attention as focus moves increasingly from the company to the supply chain.

Priority issues are:

  • how enlightened managers should begin to understand their business environment;
  • how they should start thinking strategically about change;
  • and, indeed, how they should undertake the implementation of an improved supply chain.

Value Stream Management explores the answers to these questions and provides the concepts and tools to understand and implement the creation of total value in the supply chain.

The value stream concept and your ability to quantify and map it, bringing lean thinking to all aspects of your supply chain, is core to delivering exceptional gains in the area of strategic supply.

From the Author

How to design a lean supply chain
This book is the culmination of a five year research programme carried out by Cardiff and Bath Universities into designing and implementing a Lean Supply Chain. The £1m research programme was run in co-ordination with 20 leading European based companies including Tesco, RS Components, Q8, Bass, Britvic, Nortel and London Underground. The research was designed to answer the question "How can you as a company become, or maintain your world class status within supply chain management?" The book describes the theoretical perspective of how this might be done as well as illustrating a practical approach through cases from the different companies involved in the research.

The text has been written by a group of authors led by Professor Peter Hines, Professor Richard Lamming and Professor Daniel Jones.
