The illustrations, with the exception of the frontispiece, are from Laube's édz'tion de ae of Lessing's works. The editor makes special acknowl edgment to his colleague, Professor W. O. Wilcox, for verifying the historical data; to Mr. Charles A. Wil liams, fellow in the German department, for assistance in reading the proof; to Mr. Josef Wiehr, of Breslau.
