This book of short essays examines many beliefs and practices of good and bad managers. It reviews some of the latest thinking, dispels myths and provides insights.
Adrian Furnham takes a sideways glance at management. It is difficult not to be amazed and amused by the daft, delusional or dim witted ideas of some managers or those who write about the topic. At worst they are desperately naIve about people and/or the benefits of certain approaches. They are also frequently very misleading. They dumb-down rather than lift-up. This is what makes the word 'intelligence' so ironic.
Some of these essays have been described as naughty. Some have appeared in different guides in newspaper columns and 'excited debate'. That is they have attracted everything from thanks to hate mail. Puncturing pomposity causes strong reactions.
The essays are like tablets: to be taken a few at a time. They are designed to cure hangovers, reduce blood pressure and lighten the mood. They are also meant to be prophylactics against managerial madness. Take two, then call Adrian, or email him, in the morning
