Synopsis
This volume contains a series of lectures which stress the fundamental ideas relevant to an understanding of the electrical properties of materials. Topics have been selected so that the operation of devices having applications to engineering can be properly explained. The text has been revised and updated to reflect recent developments, paying particular attention to developments in semiconductor technologies and the practical aspects of miniaturization. Additionally, the text covers high temperature superconducting materials, and developments in optical fibres, optical amplifiers and magnetic materials.
