Over the last twenty years quantum field theory has become not only the framework for the discussion of all fundamental interactions except gravity, but also that for the understanding of second-order phase transitions in statistics mechanics. This advanced text is based on graduate courses and summer schools given over a number of years by the author. It approaches the subject in terms of path and functional integrals. A Euclidean metric has been adopted and the language of partition and correlation functions is used. Renormalization and the renormalization group are discussed. A major part of the book is then devoted to critical phenomena before the book concludes with a discussion of the role of instantons in quantum field theory. This new edition includes an expanded discussion of two-dimensional field theory models and bosonization techniques. It also examines the latest developments in the problem of the Gross-Neveu model in arbitrary dimensions and matrix models of two-dimensional quantum gravity.

Review from previous edition:
This excellent book offers a systematic presentation of the quantum field theory approach in describing all fundamental interactions in particle physics and the second order phase transition in statistical mechanics (Giuseppe Mussardo, Mathematical Reviews)
...a remarkable achievement... (I. D. Lawrie, Contemporary Physics)
This excellent book is surely destined to become a valuable and standard work of reference. (Lewis Ryder, Times Higher Educational Supplement)
