An Introduction to Comparative Law first appeared in two volumes in 1987. Volume I discussed the nature of comparative law and then concentrated on a survey of the main features of the major groupings of the world's legal systems, whilst Volume II focused on contract, tort, and unjust enrichment as major departments of private law. Now published for the first time in paperback, the two volumes have been combined into one to provide a comprehensive guide to the relationship between the world's legal systems. This book is intended for students and scholars of comparative law.

This is an excellent guide to legal systems of the world, for both students and lawyers ... because of its rich content and its ability to shrink a rather large body of information into a succinct one-volume publication. (American Society of International Law Newsletter)

This... standard classroom text for courses in Comparative Law in both common law and civil law countries... succinctly collates a vast array of information for presentation in a seminar course... an excellent guide to legal systems of the world, for both students and lawyers concerned with key differences and similarities, both because of its rich content and its ability to shrink a rather large body of information into a succinct one-volume publication.
