Mrs Armitage and her faithful dog, Breakspear, set off for a day's surfing. As they wait for the perfect wave, they discover there is a whole host of items they cannot manage without--a sun shade, a megaphone, a boat hook, food and drink--which gives Mrs Armitage a wonderful workout as she swims back and forth from the shore. When the big wave finally comes, not only do Mrs Armitage and Breakspear ride it in style, they also manage to rescue a little girl who has strayed out of her depth.

About the Author:

Quentin Blake has been drawing ever since he can remember. He taught illustration for over twenty years at the Royal College of Art, of which he is an honorary professor. He has won many prizes, including the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration, the Eleanor Farjeon Award and the Kate Greenaway Medal, and in 1999 he was appointed the first Children’s Laureate. In the 2013 New Year’s Honours List he was knighted for services to illustration.
