Author Comment: How I Came to Write COMPANIONS OF THE NIGHT
I started COMPANIONS OF THE NIGHT because of a talk I was giving where--in giving illustrations--I used several examples from vampire stories. Someone commented that I had obviously given vampires a lot of thought and that I should write my own vampire story. I had thought about vampire legends, the conflicting "rules" or myths about them, and how in recent books and movies writers had stressed the horror and the gore. So I decided to go ahead and write that story, using the rules I thought made the most sense, writing for the kind of reader I am. I am very pleased to find that others enjoy the story, too.
