Puffin Lives: B.R. Ambedkar, Saviour of the Masses

9780143332282: Puffin Lives: B.R. Ambedkar, Saviour of the Masses

Born to a poor Mahar family in April 1891, Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was a victim of casteism from his very childhood. He fought for the political rights of the Dalits at a time when India was being terrorised by the British. He was also the first untouchable to receive college education as well as an eminent jurist, a brilliant politician, an astute economist, a committed anthropologist, a celebrated historian, and a distinguished philosopher. Throughout his life he fought the prejudices of social discrimination in the country and came to be known as Babasaheb. He was also the founding pillar of the Indian Constitution.

This thrilling narrative, with its wealth of little-known facts takes the reader on a journey through the life of independent India s first law minister, a formally converted Buddhist who wholeheartedly dedicated himself to initiating various movements for the social and political betterment of the Dalit community. This book presents a fascinating outlook on Ambedkar s political aspirations and promises to be an engaging and enrapturing read.

Book Description Penguin Books India, 2014. Softcover. Book Condition: New. The story of the father of the Indian Constitution Born in April 1891into a poor Mahar family, Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was a victim of caste discrimination for most of his early life. And while India struggled against the oppressions of British Raj, Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb, continued his struggle against the oppressions of the Indian caste system, the social discriminations against Dalits in India. He struggled so the underprivileged sections of Indian society could enjoy equal political rights and be treated with equal respect. An Indian jurist, politician, philosopher, anthropologist, historian and economist, Babasaheb was one of the earliest Dalit?s to earn a college degree. He grew to be the principal architect of Indian constitution. He published journals, periodicals, and launched active movements for social and political freedom for India?s Dalit community. Ambedkar, in the later years of his life, turned to Buddhism, preached it and finally made a formal conversion. This book explores the life and times of the independent India`s first law minister who fought against the discriminations inflicted by his own countrymen, who lived his life acting only in the interest of people. Payal Kapadia is the author of the very popular Wisha Wozzawriter published by Puffin in 2012. She lives in Bombay Printed Pages: 136. Bookseller Inventory # 77205
