No one is safe from Big Bad Bunny. First he steals from Little Chick, Little Squirrel, and Little Goat. Then, it's off to the bank to get some money! But Big Bad Bunny is no match for Wise Old Bunny, who runs the bank. And when Big Bad Bunny finds himself in over his head (literally), he has a change of heart and turns into Very Good Bunny. Set against the backdrop of the Old West-brought to life with bright, bold illustrations-this hilarious tale of a bunny gone bad (and then good again) is great for reading aloud.

Alan Durant is a very versatile children's writer and writes for all age groups. His picture books include Big Fish, Little Fish (MacMillan) and Mouse Party (Walker) and he has also written the popular football series Leggs United (MacMillan). Alan has two children and lives in New Maldon. This is his first book for Orchard. Guy Parker-Rees lives in North London. His other picture books for Orchard include the highly successful Giraffes Can't Dance and Down by the Cool of the Pool. From School Library Journal:
PreS-Gr 2-A rollicking tale of the Old West. Durant spins a yarn about an outsized rabbit that terrorizes a community, extracting chicken feed, nuts, and milk from an innocent populace of chickens, squirrels, goats, and other animal denizens of a mild-mannered town. The local banker, Wise Old Bunny, calls the carrot-packing outlaw's bluff and helps rehabilitate him into a pie-baking solid citizen with a revised persona, Very Good Bunny. Although Durant's rhymes and rhythms are sometimes a bit uneven, children will be captivated by the amusing cartoon artwork. Parker-Rees's palette is pure, lurid Technicolor, and the pictures perfectly suit the melodramatic tone of the story. In one scene, the text reads, "Is no one safe from Big Bad Bunny?" as the long dark purple shadow of the desperado looms over the cowering populace. This homage to the American western films of the `50s doesn't require children to be aficionados of John Ford. They will cheer when the bad guy is brought down to size and will appreciate the humor that extends to the endpapers of this cautionary tale for would-be bullies.-Sue Sherif, Fairbanks North Star Borough Public Library, AK
