About the Author:

Born in 1870 to Anglo-Irish parents, Robert Erskine Childers worked as a clerk in the House of Commons, resigning his post in 1910 to work for the Irish cause. He joined the Republican army and was one of the many leaders who were arrested and shot in the tragic civil war that followed.
