About the Author:
Leslie Poles Hartley was born in 1895 . His first major success as a novelist was THE SHRIMP AND THE ANEMONE in 1944. He won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1947 for EUSTACE AND HILDA and the Heinemann Foundation Prize in 1954 for THE GO-BETWEEN. He was awarded the CBE in 1955 and died in 1972.
