The Billy-Club Puppets; The Shoemaker's Prodigious Wife; The Love Of Don Perlimplin And Belisa In The Garden; Dona Rosita, The Spinster; The Butterfly's Evil Spell Lorca's use of tragedy and farce within the same play, as illustrated in this collection verifies that 'poetry, laughter and tears are the ingredients of his dramatic art' and confirm Lorca's immersion in the folk culture of Spain. He raises popular literature to the status of art, incorporating fantasy with reality, playing with the audience's expectations and twisting plots to undermine the predictability of folk stories.

About the Author:
Poet and dramatist Frederico Garcia Lorca (1898-1936) was born in Fuente Vaqueros, Spain. A gifted musician, he studied law at Granada but soon turned to the arts, and after publishing a promising book of prose, entered the residence of scholars at Madrid. His CANCIONES, ROMANCERO GITANO place him among the greatest of 20th-Century poets. He wrote successful prose plays, including the trilogy BLOOD WEDDING, YERMA, and THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA. He was assassinated during the Spanish Civil War.
