Throughout her pioneering career, food writer Elizabeth David often talked about wanting to compile a Christmas book. She collected recipes, articles, and notes and even went so far as to write an introduction for the book. And now it has become a reality. Beautifully written and illustrated, Elizabeth David's Christmas contains around 150 recipes and is designed to take the strain out of providing festive food. From mincepies, stuffings, and turkey, to simple first courses, party dishes, and a range of desserts, all the classics are here for the making.

ELIZABETH DAVID (1913-1992) changed the face of British cooking. Travelling widely during WWII, she introduced post-war Britain to the sun-drenched delights, new flavours and aromas of the Mediterranean, the Middle East and India. She returned to England in 1946 to write the classic Mediterranean Food, followed by five further books that all became bestsellers. Also a prolific journalist, she was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a CBE.Review:
Quite simply, the best food writer of her time. --The Times Literary Supplement
If we were to bushwack our way back to the true source of modern American food culture, we would find that it is not Julia Child, but Elizabeth David. (Her) recipes are all charm. --The New Yorker
Like all of David's books, this one is even better for daydreaming. The author seems to have viewed it that way herself. As much as she loved thinking about food and sharing it with friends and family, her own idea of a fine holiday to was to stay in bed, making herself lunch on a tray. Smoked salmon, home-made bread, butter, lovely cold white Alsace wine. A glorious way to celebrate Christmas. --The New York Times
