PreSchool-Grade 2-- The return of migrating birds, the appearance of flowers, and the start of baseball are some of the events Schweninger includes in this introduction to the season. The only holiday mentioned is April Fool's Day. A dog family plants a garden, observes nature, and participates in a field day. Directions for starting seeds indoors in egg cartons and a brief explanation of how rain is produced and how plants and animals grow are included. The attractive, uncluttered paintings are appealing and informative. This book works well as a colorful overview for the youngest listeners and as a stimulus to further exploration for primary-grade children. --Kathy Piehl, Mankato State University, MN
