9780140295078: Fabulous Time

The Swinging Sixties have swung right past Constance Reason, living out her twilight years in the Sussex countryside. Then her louche nephew Sandy and his sinister boyfriend Ray tum up, swiftly followed by Iseult, Sandy's unworldy cousin, and melodramatic Aunt Leonora (a former leading light on the West End stage). Quite a crowd, even before Nick, a pop singer oozing Bohemian decadence, appears, entourage in tow. Then all it takes is a deep breath of sweet midsummer air and dope smoke to unleash some very strange goings-on. Suddenly everybody's having the time of their lives. But is it too much of a good thing? Is it possible that things are so fabulous, someone might actually die?

Review:

`A well observed, artfully plotted and blackly comic piece of South Coast Gothic. It would make a good film, along the lines of Arsenic and Old Lace or The Ladykillers' --The Times Literary Supplement

`Deliciously funny. Christina Koning's tight plotting and neat parallels keep the narrative fizzing, while her subtle comedy is a constant delight.' --The Independent

`Compelling; she makes you avid to know the destiny of all her characters.' --The Sunday Times

`A touching, often poignant, look at hopeless love' --The Times

`Think Ab Fab meets Brideshead Revisited in this lyrical novel with family tragedy and bittersweet love as its themes. Koning evokes Little England in the Swinging 60s with such vivid wit and poignancy, you'll think you were there'
--Cosmopolitan
