About the Author:

Miss Read began her Fairacre series with VILLAGE SCHOOL in 1956, her Thrush Green series with THRUSH GREEN in 1959, and finally laid down her pen with the publication of A PEACEFUL RETIREMENT in 1996 after writing more than forty books. She was awarded the MBE in 1998 for services to literature; she lives near Hungerford.
