Grade 1-3 "World famous" ducktective Miss Mallard becomes embroiled in a mystery involving a sacred stone while surfing in Hawaii. Although the plot is not as intriguing or suspenseful as in others in the series, young audiences will find humor and enjoyment in the story and in the clever language twists in "duck-ese." The attention to details regarding the Hawaiian setting will pique readers' interest as well. Illustrations in shades of blue, green, and sand are vivid, appealing, and appropriate to the island setting, and the facial expressions add humor to the story. A suitable choice for independent second-and third-grade readers. Janice Amicone, Downington Area School District, Uwchland, Pa.
