9780137144266: High-Impact Teaching Strategies for the 'XYZ' Era of Education

In today’s classrooms, the teacher/student divide isn’t just generational — it is digital. Exposure to digital technology from birth hard-wires the human brain to learn differently.  For 21st Century learners, traditional ‘chalk and talk’ instruction belongs to a bygone era. Instead, these students need interactive teaching strategies.  This book offers 26 proven, interactive strategies to help teachers improve academic results, student engagement and classroom behavior.  Importantly, while replicating many features of the digital environment, none of the strategies rely on technology.   They require little or no extra budget and reduce wasted effort on the part of the teacher by actively involving students in the learning process.

What Educators are Saying

“Every educator needs to read this book. It successfully provides teachers with a recipe that can be used in any classroom, any content, [and] any grade-level to teach people. Teaching is an art, and the author masterfully unlocks the secrets of a successful teacher.”

- Cheryl K. Dick, elementary school teacher, Nixa R-II School District, Nixa, MO

“The connection of each strategy [in High Impact Teaching Strategies] to the world children live in today enabled me to better understand why we need to change the way we think about the instruction we deliver. These high impact-teaching strategies are both useful and relevant to the challenges educators and students face each day.”
- Tracy S. Hendrix, academic coach, Carnesville Elementary School, Carnesville, GA

From the Back Cover:

A whole new force of technology has entered education; PowerPoint, interactive white boards, MP3s, and the Internet bring stunning changes to all levels of learning in schools across the country. As teachers, the challenge is not the technology, but understanding how that technology has shaped and prepared this generation of students, the digital natives. Transforming your instruction into high impact teaching not only captivates and engages these new learners but improves academic results, classroom behavior, and student attitudes. High-Impact Teaching Strategies for the 'XYZ' Era of Education will help you incorporate these proven strategies into lessons to meet the demands of today’s classroom.

Ignite student learning and enhance your instruction with the help of Rich Allen:

  • Identify specific generations of learners currently in your classroom and learn how digital natives change the unique dynamics in our schools.
  • Adapt your teaching strategies to captivate the interest of every student.
  • Incorporate 26 (A-Z) High-Impact Strategies, which are divided into seven sections: In General; The Connection; The Big Picture; Focus on Classroom Management; In Practice; Next Step; and Your Ideas.
  • Implement High-Impact Lessons from real teachers used with real students, covering all 26 strategies across the grade levels and content areas.
  • Include 10 model classroom stories in your instruction as analogies, metaphors, or examples to foster student learning.
