"Cross Country" is a four-level course for 10 to 11 year old beginners. Each level includes a student's book, workbook, teacher's book and cassette pack. Its features include: slow initial pace, regular grammar units, systematic pronunciation practice, vocabulary learning through cognates, active participation in building up word banks, listening based on dialogues, introduction to English-speaking culture in relation to the pupil's own society. The cross-cultural element is provided through the presence of real-life children: Max from London and Brigitte from Montreal. Learners are thus introduced to language, topics and activities appropriate to their age group. A "scrapbook" element in the workbooks encourages them to build up parallel records of themselves and their own lives - in English.
