From the Back Cover:

In this balanced, theory/practice approach to multicultural education, pre- and in-service teachers get a comprehensive look at the different types of diversity, plus practical teaching strategies delivered through lesson plans and cases. The focus is on ethnic diversity and community in the United States, diversity rooted in racial, cultural, ad individual differences, and also emphasizes basic human similarities and global connections. Interdisciplinary content is presented through primary source material and vignettes of actual teachers and students. Featured is a teacher-tested curriculum development model which focuses on core values, helping teachers make a stronger case for multicultural perspectives in their curriculums.

Incorporating research from current sociology, history, and ethno-geography, this new edition:

  • NEW! Presents a comprehensive conceptual framework integrating four interactive dimensions of multicultural education: equity pedagogy, curriculum reform, multicultural competence, and social justice.
  • NEW! Presents an accessible overview of contemporary immigration: how it impacts our schools and society, and how teachers can be successful in linguistically and ethno/racially diverse classrooms.
  • NEW! Includes substantial reorganization rewriting, and new information in many of the sections, parts, and chapters.
  • Updates and improves many of the in-text features, such as the case studies, census data, graphics, maps, photos, and Selected Sources for further Study.
  • Conveniently locates the revised supplementary materials and teaching tools in the Instructor’s Manual.
