Synopsis
Presenting methods of construction for a number of combinatorial designs and tournaments, this book makes use of difference methods, pairwise balanced designs and orthogonal latin squares. The subject is given fairly general coverage, and the text contains numerous examples. Amongst the designs discussed are orthogonal latin squares, finite projective planes, Hadamard designs, Steiner systems, Kirkman triple systems, transversal designs, league schedules, room squares, balanced tournament designs and whist tournaments. The book provides a presentation of the construction of room squares and whist tournaments. Emphasis is placed on existence and construction, but the algebraic properties of the designs are not studied in any depth.
