"Creative, satisfying and quick" foods to break the fasts imposed by sleep are showcased in this brief, easy-to-read volume. As a collection, the 100-plus breakfast recipes from the Betty Crocker cookbook series cover all the basics of making morning fare. In the tradition of Crocker, "red spoon" sections serve forth tips on making the meal both nourishing and appealing, with reassuring advice on such basics as brewing coffee and boiling eggs. Chapters include breakfasts for two, for a family of four, feasts for a crowd, and what to do with lazy days or holidays. And while homing in on weekend hungers, most recipes will be just as right for workday mornings. Almost remedial in their simplicity are westernlc per Web omelets, fruit salad with canned oranges enlivened by crunchy bits of apple and sweet dates, or cottage cheese blended with fresh mint and served with berries. But Betty Crocker also recognizes the popularity of ethnic flavors in recipes for curried cream cheese, Texas breakfast tacos with guacamole and salsa, and currant scones. Anyone who needs help cooking for night owls or morning types will find plenty of good (albeit standard) ideas here. Photos not seen by PW.
