Publisher's blue cloth cover with gilt lettering on spine and top cover is clean without significant wear. Binding sound. Top edge of textblock and front endpaper have name stamp of previous owner "Drost" (W. Drost-Hanson), a well known chemist/biophysicist. The endpapers have a few light areas of foxing. There are some very faint pencil notations in the margins of a few pages. The author, Albert Szent-Györgi, has signed the half-title page. Lacking DJ. ; Albert Szent-Györgyi received the 1937 Nobel prize for his work on reactions included in the Krebs cycle. He was involved with numerous other important discoveries including the purification and structure of vitamin C, the identification of myosin and actin (which provide the mechanism for muscle contraction, and other important findings. The preface of this book begins: "It would take a superhuman ability to explore the deeper foundations of life. What one can do, more hopefully, is to investigate just a few of its facets. This booklet is a very personal accoutn of some of my own researches. It is neither complete or continuous. I have omitted even much of my own work.
