About the Author:

Dr. Anju Dahiya is affiliated with the University of Vermont as a Biofuels Instructor at the Plant and Soil Science Department and Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources. For developing and teaching the "Biomass to Biofuels course", she brought together the experts from biofuels business, farms and University faculty members and she designed this course to provide hands on experience in various biofuels including liquid biofuels (biodiesel including oil seeds; ethanol, algae oil), solid biomass (woody biomass and grass energy), and biogas. The course developed with support from US Department of Energy is aimed at providing the participants including students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and others with hands-on technical exposure to various Biofuels related science & technology topics, background & literature information besides addressing the environmental, economic, policy, social and other Biofuel related issues via various means of instruction to include on campus classes, field work involving tours to Farms,/Biofuel facilities; talks by experts on particular Biofuel type; Biofuel equipment demonstrations by professionals; online supplementary classes/information including video clips. Currently she leads several biofuel research projects focused on algae-fuel funded through Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, NASA (EPSCoR), and NSF (EPSCoR) related to development of a robust system of algae-oil production that could be integrated with dairy farm & industrial wastewater treatment. As a biofuel Scientist, she has been applying systems approach to develop a robust system of algal-oil production. Her Algae-Biofuel works have been captured by VPT (PBS) TV channel (Emerging Science); Burlington Free Press; and long standing TV program - Across the Fence (forthcoming). She has been presenting her work as an invited speaker in conferences, State programs, workshops, and published papers.
