This book explains how to solve on a computer many of the common mathematical problems encountered by engineers and scientists. A novel approach is taken, wherein the computer provides not only a numerical solution to the problem at hand, but also verification of the solution's accuracy. The CD-ROM included in this book contains a suite of demonstration programs for precise computation, which will accurately solve problems involving ordinary differential equations and other problems commonly treated in most elementary numerical analysis texts. These programs run on a PC running Windows 95 or a later Microsoft operating system. For other types of computers, the C++text files supplied can be converted by a C++compiler into executable programs.About the Author:
Oliver Aberth received his B.S. from City College of New York, his M.S. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. He is also the author of Computable Analysis (McGraw-Hill, 1980) and Precise Numerical Methods Using C++ (Academic Press, 1998). He was professor of mathematics at Texas A & M University from 1970 to 1999. He is currently professor emeritus at Texas A & M University.
