The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency acts on behalf of Health Ministers to protect public health by promoting the safe use of medicines. The Agency seeks to ensure advertising is fully compliant with UK and European medicines law, as well as working closely with other statutory regulators and self-regulatory bodies to promote a consistent approach in health promotion. This publication, the "Blue Guide", updates an earlier guidance note on advertising and promotion of medicines in the UK published in 1999. The guide is intended to reflect the changes that have occurred in legislation governing the advertising of medicines and the developments that have taken place in the Agency's policy and procedures. It also takes account of the Government's response to the Health Committee's report on the advertising of new active substances (HCP 42-I, session 04-05, The Influence of the Pharmaceutical Industry: 4th report - ISBN 0215023900).
