From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-Grade 2. Prickety Prackety, the bantam hen/heroine of this slow-paced British import, goes about her usual routine of laying one brown speckled egg a day, which is collected by Anne at teatime. Then Chanticleer gives Prickety Prackety a little peck the day she decides to lay an egg outside the henhouse. After telling sister Partlet and some white ducks that she is "going off to mind her own business." she finds another place for a nest. The big mystery of her comings and goings for more than 13 days and no eggs for Anne is eventually revealed when she shows up with 12 chicks. Much of the British terminology will be unfamiliar to the intended audience, but Crossland's nicely rendered watercolors of farm and house add a lot to the tale. Unfortunately, the story is labored compared to Lilian McCrea's Mother Hen (Picture Book Studio, 1987; o.p.) and Antonia Barber's Gemma and the Baby Chick (Scholastic, 1993). Perhaps a class hatching eggs could use this title, but otherwise pass on it.?Marsha McGrath, Clearwater Public Library, FL
