Constable Publishers has reissued Bill Knox's 1959 novel as part of its Constable Crime collection. Set in a large department store in downtown Glasgow, the story begins when Thane and Moss are called in to investigate a dramatic increase in shoplifting. The managing director suspects something more than a seasonal high in losses--a fear soon confirmed when Thane and Moss uncover a highly organised swindle in progress. The disappearance of the women's fashion buyer, swiftly followed by two savage murders, turns the story into a fast moving, dramatic hunt for the killer.

Bill Knox, a journalist turned crime author, was well known to Scottish viewers for many years as presenter of Crime Desk, the police liaison programme. He has written more than 70 novels as well as several non-fiction books about crime and has been widely praised for his meticulous research, authority and accuracy on police procedures.

As well as painting a detailed picture of retail life in the late 1950s,Death Department is a tense and thrilling mystery, brought to a convincing and unexpected climax by a master practitioner.

About the Author:

Bill Knox began writing as a young Glasgow journalist, crime reporter, motoring correspondent and news editor and went on to write some 70 novels by the time of his death in 1999.
