When a strange package arrives in the nursery, everyone is puzzled. What on earth could it be? Little Bear is sure it's full of treasure, but Duck has his doubts. 'It's probably empty,' he grumbles. But when the box speaks, it is clear that something much more exciting than treasure is inside. A beautiful brand new edition of Jane Hissey's classic playroom adventure, Jolly Tall.

Since studying illustration and design at Brighton, Jane has written and illustrated over 20 picture books. Her 'Old bear' series of books won worldwide acclaim and featured in a BAFTA award winning TV series. Jane has three grown up children and lives in Sussex, with her husband Ivan, who is also an illustrator. From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 2-- Bramwell Brown, the stuffed puppy of the nursery (and, like all his pals, a real softie), gets carried away with his knitting and produces a huge red scarf far too long for anyone in the playroom. A large box arrives, and after much childish ado, they find a toy giraffe, Jolly Tall, inside: a new friend for them, with a neck for which the scarf is perfect. As always, something in the glass eyes of Hissey's nursery characters lets them seem quite alive even as they retain their still, toylike quality. This device gives a loving nod of approval to children who imagine life into their stuffed animals, and it accounts for the book's charm in validating that brand of make-believe. Hissey builds on this by taking full advantage of a favorite imagination-inspirer: the box. Soft colored-pencil drawings make their lush contribution; their sweet tone, extremely inviting and comfy, reflects children's attitudes toward their beloved stuffed companions. --Liza Bliss, Leominster Public Library, MA
