It is Christmas Eve, and all the angels are getting ready to fly down to Earth to deliver their message of peace and goodwill to mankind ‹ all except the Little Angel, who is considered too small to make such a long journey. But the Little Angel has a feeling she is needed on Earth this special night, and she sets off on an amazing adventure guided by her very own star. Earth is beautiful ‹ blanketed in snow, windows twinkling with Christmas trees, streets hung with fairy lights ‹ but when she comes across an old man, accompanied by his beloved cat, playing the fiddle for his supper, she realizes that not everyone is happy and prosperous. It is then, when she decides to watch over him, that the Little Angel begins to realize the true purpose of her special journey. From School Library Journal:
Gr 2-4-On Christmas Eve the angels (who look like young girls dressed in colorful nightgowns) are getting ready to fly down to Earth with their message of peace and goodwill. The Little Angel wants to go with them, but is told that she is too small. After the others leave, she sees "her very own star" and decides that this is a sign telling her to visit Earth. She follows a poor, old street performer home and tries to help him by bringing food and logs for the fire, but fails. However, her star has lit up the man's house, causing many people to find it and share their holiday with him. Her job finished, the Little Angel rejoins the others in the clouds. The watercolor-and-ink artwork should appeal to young readers. However, there are many better holiday stories about little angels out there-this saccharine one is strictly additional.-M. A.
