The second and third novels in the trilogy are HMS Hero (1976) and Holt, R.N. (1977). In July 1979, MacKintosh was flying over the Gulf of Alaska in a light aircraft. A distress signal was picked up by the US Coast Guard, and the plane's last-known position searched.
