Book Description Hutchinson, London, 1972. Brown boards/ git lettering. Book Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair/Good. Both the Huntley and Palmer families were members of the Society of Friends, and the effect of Quaker disciplines in their family and business relationships is fully explored in this book. In adddition, the author portrays the principal characters and workers in human terms, so adding colour and dimension to an intriguing view of company development. 320 pp including b/w illustrations, family photographs and a comprehensive family tree. The pictorial dust jacket depicts foreign/exotic parts of the world to which H&P biscuits were exported and is encased in a removable supasleeve. The dj is rubbed at the extremities and has several small tears, open and closed, none longer than 1/4". All the printed matter on the dj is intact and it has not been price-clipped. The surface of the plastic sleeve is grubby but the dj underneath appears quite clean. This is an ex- library book so has the typical classification numbers, library stamps and hand-written notes on the endpapers. There is a mark on the front endpaper where a library issue ticket has been removed but this affects only a small area of the illustration ( workers producing biscuits ). The endpapers are copies of old prints of H&P Reading factory, both different and thought to be mid-nineteenth century. The boards are rubbed at the extremities but the gilt lettering is still bright and the binding tight. The cut edges are browned with age with some grubby patches. The actual text and pages are clean and unmarked. A very rare book. Size: 6 1/4 " x 9 1/2 ". Hard cover ex libris. Bookseller Inventory # 0007052
