Synopsis
This text presents an introduction to the classical principles and methods of structural analysis and an understanding of structural behaviour appreciating the impact of the computer revolution. A PC diskette containing a customized version of a professional computer program called IMAGES-2D accompanies the text, primarily as a means of verifying classical method solutions. Emphasizing the fact that the end result of a safe, functional design is achieved by the engineer who has a firm grasp of the classical principles of structural behaviour, the text presents structural analysis as a link to efficient design. There are detailed examples of shear and bending moment diagram construction, and introductions to Influence Line development and to matrix algebra and matrix methods.
