This text covers ten generic teaching skills that are essential to good teaching at all grade levels and in all subject areas. Taken together, these skills can be thought of as a minimum repertoire that all teachers need to acquire. The book has instructional flexibility: being self-instructional (in-chapter tests with answer keys) it can be used as a core text in skill-oriented general methods courses, as a supplement in courses where general teaching skills are one component, and as a review guide in the senior-level student teaching course or for persons preparing for state or national competency exams. Each chapter begins with specific learning objectives that help focus the reader's attention. Comprehension of key objectives is then checked with the self-tests at the end of the chapters. Teaching planning, implementation and evaluation components are also included.

Kenneth D. Moore is Dean of the School of Education and Psychology at East Central University. He received his Ed.D. degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Houston. Dr. Moore has been involved in teacher education for more than 25 years at both the public school and higher education levels. He has authored three books, numerous journal publications, an ERIC monograph, and has presented many papers at regional and national conventions. Dr. Moore has also served as Director of the Southwest Regional Association of Teachers of Science, President of the Oklahoma Association of Teacher Educators, and President of the Oklahoma Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. Dr. Moore is presently involved in educational reform and authentic assessment and serves on the NCATE Board of Examiners (BOE).
