From the Publisher:
Active Art! The 6th edition Digital Content Manager offers new Active Art files for key Process Figures from the text. Each piece of art can be broken down to its core elements, grouped or ungrouped, and edited to create customized illustrations.
Throughout the book, the text narrative has been reworked to incorporate a more student-friendly style. More examples and analogies are included to help students grasp explanations of difficult concepts. Wording used in explanations has been simplified and/or smoothed out to improve readability.
Newly expanded transparency set: This exhaustive set of 1000 transparency overheads includes every piece of line art and most photos from the textbook, plus 187 unlabeled images.
Digital Content Manager. This dynamic instructor CD replaces the former Visual Resource Library. The digital assets on this cross-platform CD-ROM are organized by chapter in an easy-to-use folder system.

Art Library: Full-color digital files of all illustrations in the book (745 images), plus the same art saved in gray scale (745 images). These images are also pre-inserted into blank PowerPoint slides for ease of use. Unlabeled versions of 164 figures are included in both color and grayscale formats.
Photo Library: Digital files of 160 instructionally significant photographs from the text'including cadaver, bone, histology, and surface anatomy images. Also includes 34 photos saved in unlabeled versions.
Table Library: Every table that appears in the text is provided in electronic form (195 tables).
PowerPoint Lecture Outlines: Ready-made presentations that combine art and lecture notes are provided for each of the 29 chapters of the text.
Active Art Library: 41 pieces included (30 new, book specific/11 repurposed pieces from other texts)
Animations Library: 45 full-color animations illustrating physiological processes are provided (30 new, book specific/15 repurposed animations from 5th edition).

Updated ART PROGRAM! The artwork in the sixth edition has seen a major transformation. Nearly every figure and photo in the text has been modified to reflect a more contemporary style and to make the appearance of structures consistent throughout the book. Many new Process Figures have been developed to provide well-organized, self-contained visual explanations of how physiological mechanisms work.
Comprehensive learning system. The infrastructure of pedagogical aids has been revised to round out a two-pronged approach to learning. Knowledge and comprehension level questions are balanced with questions that require more complex reasoning in both the narrative of the text and in the end-of-chapter exercises.
New Review and Comprehension tests at the end of each chapter provide a battery of multiple-choice questions that cover all of the key points presented in the chapter for more recall practice.
Streamlined organization. In response to feedback from numerous instructors, this edition has undergone the following carefully implemented organizational changes:

Past editions of the text presented the topics of resting membrane potentials, action potentials, and responses of receptor molecules in a separate chapter. For the sixth edition, we have moved these discussions closer to topics where knowledge of these concepts is essential. In the process, this material has been integrated into appropriate discussions within chapter 3 (the functions of cells), chapter 9 (muscle physiology), chapter 11 (nervous system physiology), and chapter 17 (endocrine system physiology).
Coverage of the nervous system has been reorganized, and a new chapter has been added. The new sequence of chapters presents the basic organizational and functional characteristics of the nervous system (chapter 11), the structure and functions of the spinal cord and spinal nerves (chapter 12), the structure and functions of the brain and cranial nerves (chapter 13), and integrative functions of the nervous system in responding to sensory input and the generation of motor responses (new chapter 14).
