New Chapter. Chapter 9, "Small Group Presentations to an Audience," is a new chapter. The chapter covers how to prepare an oral presentation and discusses three typical formats for group presentations, namely 1) the Panel discussion, 2) the Symposium, and 3) the Forum discussion.
"Communication Processes," formerly Chapter 5, is now Chapter 2. The chapter deals with the unique aspects of communication in the small group setting. It covers language behavior, self-disclosure, and interaction roles.
Chapter 3, "Relevant Background Factors," has a new section on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, which is the most widely used non clinical personality inventory, in the section on group members' personality. The chapter examines how different personality types interact together in a group.
Chapter 3 also includes new information about the Internet, such as online group interaction and online sites to visit.

Dr. Stewart “Stu” Tubbs is the Darrell H. Cooper Professor of Leadership and is the former Dean of the College of Business at Eastern Michigan University. He received his doctorate from the University of Kansas, his Masters and Bachelors degrees are from Bowling Green State University. He has completed postdoctoral study at Harvard Business School and at Stanford Graduate School of Business. Dr. Tubbs has consulted for numerous corporations and has won three awards for his outstanding teaching. In 1994 he received the Outstanding Leadership Award in London, England from the Academy of Business Administration. He is the author of A Systems Approach to Small Group Interaction (7th ed.), 2001 and co-author with Sylvia Moss of Human Communication (8th ed.), 2000, both published by McGraw-Hill. He also is the author of a monthly newspaper column entitled “Insights.”
