The book continues to be the standard-bearer for principles courses, and this revision continues to be a clear, accurate, and interesting introduction to modern economics principles. Bill Nordhaus is now the primary author of this text, and he has revised the book to be as current and relevant as ever.

In the previous edition, the chapters on international economics were placed at the very end of the text in Part Five, International Trade and the World Economy. In the Seventeenth edition, these chapters have been integrated into the micro/macroeconomics sections of the text. The material from Chapter 20 (International Trade and Exchange Rates) from the previous edition appears in the 17e as Chapter 15 (Comparative Advantage and Protectionism). Book length reduced from 22 to 19 chapters: this is accomplished by incorporating the International Trade and the World Economy chapters into the micro and macro discussion. The book is also shortened by removing the chapter on General Equilibrium is and putting it in an appendix to Chapter 14. This reduction in length helps students focus on the most important concepts.
