Learn and remember French words
“A simple new way to increase your foreign-language vocabulary . . .”
-Nada El Sawy, Newsweek
The French for bakery is boulangerie. Imagine a bakery that sells underwear for bulls: bull lingerie; then keep this picture in your mind for about 10 seconds, until the next word is presented. After a set if 8 to10 words, you are tested on what you have learned. Within 10 to 12 hours, you will have a solid foundation of vocabulary and grammar to communicate confidently.

The Instant recall French course is unique in that they are written by a memory expert, in conjuction with language experts. This means that much more attention is paid to helping learners remember what they have learned than is the case with other courses. Not only vocabulary, but basic grammar is taught on the course so that within an hour you are able to translate sentences and within 10 or so hours of learning you will have enough vocabulary and grammar to communicate effectively in many situations you will meet in France.
One of the main methods used in the course to learn vocabulary is the method of association or Linkword method
It works like this. PICTURE EACH IMAGE BELOW IN YOUR MINDS EYE FOR 10 SECONDS TO FIX IT IN YOUR MEMORY.
The French for TABLECLOTH is NAPPE.
Imagine having a NAP on a TABLECLOTH.
The French for HEDGEHOG is HERISSON.
Imagine Your HAIRY SON looks like a HEDGEHOG.
The French for HEN is POULE.
Imagine a HEN swimming in a POOL of water.
What is the English for POULE, HERISSON, and NAPPE?
Over 60 Scientific Studies published in Scientific journals have shown that for the vast majority of people, this method of learning increases speed of learning by up to 3 times normal learnng methods and that such learning benefits are long lasting. In one early study published in the journal of Educational Psycholgy, learners using this method on a list of 60 Spanish words remembered 88% of the 60 word list, compared to an average of 28% retention when this method was not used.A study at Rugby school, published in the Language Learning journal, of children who were poor at French had such a positive effect, that the head of Modern languages reported "The success rate has been conspicuous. The pupils learned rather difficult vocabulary for a long period of time. After the end of term exams a quarter of the set were promoted to the class above" (something which had never happened before).Disk 2 of the Instant Recall package lays out in detail the huge amount of evidence showing the effectiveness of the methods used in the course.
It is important however that users follow the instructions and picture each image in their mind's eye as vividly as possible, as well as testing themselves after each set of words are learned, or the method will not be effective If therefore, the examples above worked for you, the whole course is highly likely to work for you also.
In the Instant Recall course, learning is by images, not repetition, but by the end of each section the learner will have listened to each word at least four times in a different context to the first time they hear the word.
A few people claim the images used in the course are a bit strange. Of course they are!! Many published studies have show that the images we use are highly effective, in part because their strangeness makes them memorable.
No method of learning works for ever, but if you follow instructions to picture each image for 10 seconds, do the tests on the course and translate the sentence examples, you will be amazed at how much you learn in a very short time. The courses work for all ages above the age of ten years. More importantly they work for people who were poor at languages at school as well as those who are good at languages, and there is some feedback that people who are dyslexic benefit from the course also.
Of course some people, especially those with a prior knowledge of French, are sceptical of the approach, since at first sight it seems very odd. However as noted above, the overwhelming scientific evidence, rather than personal opinion, is that the Instant Recall approach works for almost anyone who seroiusly tries to learn a new language
