From the Back Cover:

Sailing, being an ancient tradition guarded by a fraternity of cranky old men principally occupied in the baking of brains and the application of alcohol to the affected area, has developed its own strange and complex vocabulary. How can you learn every detail and nuance of this arcane lingo? Answer: you can't. But at least you can buy this book (do it now, while you're thinking about it), read it cover to cover (or at least read the covers), and encourage all your friends and relatives to buy it. And then, if you still aren't sure how to hoist your own petard or paddle your own canoe, you'll at least be past that embarrassing "wrap-that-thing-around-that-thingy-over-there" stage.

Maybe you've never set foot on the water. Maybe you think you walk on it. Either way, this book will convince you that a boat is like a dictionary of obscenities; it's impossible to use to the fullest unless you already know all the words.

"Dave never could get out of his own way in a boat, but I always said he talked a good game." sole surviving crewmemeber (name withheld on request)

"Dave Zobel? I thought he drowned years ago." his first sailing instructor

About the Author:

Dave Zobel, shown here with his most recent boat, works all day with bits and bytes and dreams all night of bitts and bights. An enthusiastic if misguided amateur etymologist, he denies having precipitated more than a handful of nautical mishaps with his too-literal interpretations of sailing commands. Despite pending damage claims, he still maintains he would rather be sailing.
